Two Calvert County Girl Scouts from Senior Troop 4678 have created a Little Free Pantry that will soon be installed in the lower back parking lot near the campus garden of All Saints Episcopal Church. The Little Free Pantry movement is a grassroots solution to immediate needs for the food insecure in our community. The intent is to supplement formal food programs or larger food pantries as this Little Free Pantry is open to anyone that needs it, all day, every day of the week and approachable as a self-serve food source where the recipient may determine their own need. If you have seen a Little Free Library before, the concept is essentially the same except containing food and personal care products. The girls completed this in what is known as a “Take Action” project for Girl Scouts after finishing the “Sow What” journey, learning about global food networks.
